SUBANG JAYA: Charity is a familiar subject
for students of Sri Kuala Lumpur school here. They have been
lending a helping hand for many years by holding various events
to raise money for charity.
Just this year, they managed to raise RM450,000
from a charity dinner, musical drama, food fiesta and golf
tournament held between May and July.
Recently, cheques were presented to 16 charity
homes and two individuals in need of help. One of them is
baby Yee Jian Wen, whose plight was recently highlighted in
the New Straits Times.
The five-month-old Yee was diagnosed with
a hole in the heart and had undergone corrective surgery early
this month.
School executive chairman Tan Sri Othman Merican said the
plight of the baby's family touched the hearts of the school
students and staff.
"The charity drive is one way to unite
the students, staff and the public to help the less fortunate.
It's also a chance for the students to realise how fortunate
they are," he said after the cheque presentation and
Merdeka celebration for preschool pupils. Also present was
the school chief executive officer Hanif Merican.
