EIGHTY kids from Sri Kuala Lumpur School
went on an adventurous journey to Oz recently for more than
a fun reason.
The group of students from Years One to
Six presented their 4th Annual Musical Drama “The Wizard
of Oz” to raise funds for charity.
The proceeds from the event, held in the
Sri KL Auditorium in Subang Jaya, went to the Montfort Boys
Town.

Dorothy and the scarecrow
In the musical stage production, 11-year
old Julia Desiree Merican was the narrator. The story revolves
around Dorothy the girl from Kansas who dreams of a land somewhere
over the Rainbow, far away where there are no troubles or
sorrows.
Dorothy (played by Ashley Lee), goes on
an adventurous journey with the Scarecrow (played by Tan Tze
Hans). Tin Man (played by Alyssa Jasmy) and the Lion (played
by Krishna Manoharan) to the Emerald City to ask the Wizard
for four favours.
But to their surprise, the Wizard of Oz (acted
by Md Danish Dzakihilmy) tells them that good traits are within
each of us and not in magic.
Three dances were incorporated in the show.
The highlight was a choir presentation of “Heal The
World”, a tribute to the late King of Pop Michael Jackson.
The musical drama was produced by the the
school’s teachers. Play direction for the cast of 43
dramatists was undertaken ably by Maria Assunta Januarius,
Elizabeth Komatt and Anuranie Sirisinghe of the English Department,
while the school choir of 39 students was trained by Music
teachers Alice Goh, Lau Chooi Wee and Ng Chin Yen.
The dances were choreographed by Angeline
Miranda and Janet Doss.
All the props were the handiwork of Leon
Lee and Leong Ching Yee from the Art Department.
ISchool Principal Dr Tan Khun commended
the teachers and students for a job well done.
The school’s chief executive officer
Hanif Othman Merican said that performing arts played a significant
role in holistic education.
He later presented a cheque for RM18,000
which was from the sales of tickets to Jamie Lee from the
Montfort Boys’ Town, Shah Alam.
