A dramatic scene during the charity
performance.
SUBANG JAYA: All smiles, Thumbelina danced
onto the stage on her tippy toes.
She looked a little nervous it must be said. But it's not
surprising considering it was the stage debut of Renatii
Kong Yueh.
The 11-year-old student of Sri Kuala Lumpur school recently
played the lead role in her school play, the well-loved
fairy tale Thumbelina by Hans Christian Andersen.
Thumbelina, played by Renatti Kong
Yueh sitting on a lotus pad as the other performers sing to
her.
"I'm really excited about being in my
school play. I'm a bit nervous though," she said just
before her entrance.
"What I enjoy most is being able to
dress up as a fairy princess," she said.
For the past six months she spent an hour-and-a-half
daily rehearsing her part.
The person who brought the story of the tiny
fairy princess to life was the school music teacher, Anna
Lee.
"My students have practiced diligently
and I'm really confident about their performance," she
enthused.
School principal Tan Khun said he was proud
of his students for their hard work, and for giving so much
of their time to help the needy.
"All the proceeds from the performances
will be given to 10 charity organisations."
Tan, who has headed Sri Kuala Lumpur for
the past three years, said it was an opportunity for all 57
performers in the musical to learn about the less fortunate.

"This will inculcate values and teach
the childen about charity," he said, adding that the
experience has also boosted their confidence.
Angeline Salazar, who has worked at the school
for over 25 years, said the school hoped to raise RM300,000
from the two performances last week.
Most of the tickets were bought by parents,
relatives and friends of the children, she said.
