Our History

1979 January Sri Kuala Lumpur Primary School is established by an educationist – the late Tan Sri Dato’ Ir. Othman Merican and a group of friends in an old bungalow in Jalan Nipah Kuala Lumpur. Classes commence with an initial enrolment of 6 students, assisted by the late Mrs Siew Pick Yoke and a team of dedicated teachers

1979 August Sri KL moves to Jalan Anak Gasing.

1980 January Enrolment increases to over 100 students.

1981 January Sri KL moves to Jalan Ampang following an increase in enrolment to over 300 students.

1984 December Sri KL moves to Taman Mayang, Petaling Jaya. The bigger premises ensure that the school can accommodate the ever-increasing student population.

1986 January Sri KL finally moves to its present and permanent premises in Subang Jaya, Selangor.

1987 January Sri KL Secondary School is officially incorporated.

1989 December Sri KL Primary School shifts into the newly constructed building adjacent to the main facility. The new block comprises 2 primary wings including a library and an audio-visual room, a block housing the canteen plus a huge multi-purpose hall.

1990 January The new Sri KL primary block is officially opened by the Menteri Besar of Selangor, YAB Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Muhammad bin Haji Muhammad Taib with YAB Tan Sri Dato’ Mohd Khir Johari, Chairman of Malaysia Chapter of the World Wildlife Fund.

1991 January Mr. Chong Tek Yin becomes Principal of Sri KL Secondary School.

1997 May The late Mrs. Siew Pick Yoke retires. Miss Tan Geok Lian assumes the post of Principal and continues to hold this post with much dedication and confidence.

1997 July Tan Sri Dato’ Ir. Othman Merican projects his vision of Smart School Concept, resulting in a paradigm shift in the form of:
- Physical infrastructure
- Computer training for teachers
- Restructured syllabus specification, and
- In-house workshops

1997 November Teachers commence computer training by 3rd party lecturers until May 1998. All Sri Kuala Lumpur teachers are now computer literate.

1998 June Classrooms are renovated and air-conditioners are installed in all classrooms.

1998 October Two senior teachers are sent in a 6-week Smart School training Programme, organised by Ministry of Education and came back to mentor all staff.

1999 January IT lessons are integrated into the Sri Kuala Lumpur Primary School timetable.

1999 July The Honourable Deputy Minister of Education, Datuk Mohd. Khalid Yunos launches the SMART SCHOOL CONCEPT and the official website of Sri KL Primary School on Saturday – 10th of July, 1999 .

2000 January Sri KL enters the new millennium and is now ready to take on new challenges.

2000 June Sri KL Secondary School is officially declared a SMART SCHOOL by The Honourable Minister of Education, Tan Sri Musa Muhammad.

2001 October Mr. Chew Teck Ann becomes the Principal of Sri KL Secondary School.

2002 February Mrs Chong You Peng becomes the Principal of Sri KL Primary School.

2003 December A new 5 storey facilities block and swimming pool are completed.

2004 December Sri KL upgrades the Great Hall to be fully air-conditional and builds a new auditorium.

2005 September The Honourable Minister of Education Dato Seri Hishamuddin Tun Hussein officially declares the new facilities open.

2006 March Dr. Tan Khun becomes the Principal of Sri KL Primary School.

2007 November Athenaeans Alumni Association of Sri KL is established.

2008 January Sri KL Secondary School adopts Cambridge Exam Syndicate’s International General Certificate of Education (IGCSE).

2008 August Sri KL Charity Fiesta 2008 raises RM463,500 for charity. Event is made more special by attendance of Selangor Menteri Besar, Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and Yang Dipertua MPSJ, Dato’ Adnan Bin Hj Md. Ikshan.

2009 January Mr Tan Sun Seng joins Sri KL as Vice Principal of Secondary School.

2009 December Sri Kuala Lumpur becomes a not-for-profit charitable foundation.

2010 January Sri KL Primary School adopts Cambridge Exam Syndicate’s Cambridge International Primary Programme (CIPP) beginning with Years 1 and 2.

2019  July Dr Cheah Swi Ee joins as the Principal Designate of Primary School

2019  December Mr Chew Teck Ann and Dr Tan Khun retire as Principals of Secondary School and Primary School respectively.

2020  January Dr Cheah Swi Ee becomes the Principal of Primary School

2020  January Mr Tan Sun Seng becomes the Principal of Secondary School

2020  March Both Primary and Secondary Schools begin virtual teaching due to COVID-19 pandemic
