On the 29th of August, our Secondary School celebrated GEMA Merdeka, truly embodying the Spirit of Merdeka in its fullest form. Our multi-racial school community stood united in heart and spirit as we commemorated the 68th anniversary of our nation’s independence.
Students proudly donned their traditional costumes and waved the Jalur Gemilang as the celebration began with a melodious performance of “Satu Malaysia” by a talented group of Year 7 and Year 10 students, This was followed by a sajak presentation and the much-anticipated Merdeka Character Display, which featured three iconic figures who shaped our nation — Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tun Tan Cheng Lock, and Tun V.T. Sambanthan. Their stories inspired students to better appreciate the struggles and sacrifices of Malaysia’s true heroes.
Adding colour and creativity to the event, the Fashionista Club impressed by dressing up teachers in unique outfits under the theme “Everything Malaysia”. The celebration continued with soulful performances by the Music Jamming Club, featuring Ms Lee Kai Ming, Mr Jarrett Yap, and several talented students, who delivered beautiful renditions of “Belaian Jiwa” and “Pujaanku”.
The patriotic spirit soared higher with the Merdeka Quiz, which tested both students’ and teachers’ knowledge on Malaysia’s history and achievements. The atmosphere remained lively with the screening of a short film titled “Show and Tell”, followed by an One Beat One Rhythm Dance performed by the Dance Club, captivating the audience with its elegance and energy.
The celebration concluded on a high note as the entire hall came together to sing “Jalur Gemilang” and “Tanggal 31”, showcasing the unwavering patriotism of Sri KL’s young Malaysians.
••GEMA Merdeka 2025 was more than just a celebration — it was a reminder of our nation’s unity, diversity, and shared identity. This is truly the way forward in keeping the Malaysian spirit alive at Sri KL!
